Follow the Leader

Lynn Lake was literally crawling with turtles on the first warm day in a while.  They loaded up every possible log.

We found our two most common species together on a log, the red eared slider  and the yellow bellied slider.

The red ear is on the left, the yellow bellied on the right.
The yellow bellied is native, whereas the red ear, native to the Mississippi drainage, has been introduced by pet owners who get tired of their pet turtles.  There are laws in NC about owning turtles. (See here)
