Best signs

The signs at the march this year were less creative and more political.  Bernie Bros were there as well as signs for Bloomberg and Yang.  But there were a few good ones in the mix...

The large crowd was energized and determined.  

Even the suffragettes were marching.  

Turtles

There's a new line of turtles at the outdoor play space.  I don't think they'd be very good stepping stones.

On a cold day, this bluebird huddled on top of the bird house in the sun.

Quiet

Everything was quiet.  Not even a bird call or a breeze disturbed the silence.

As he walked past me, he appeared to be walking into the light.

The square root of two

This sculpture stands at the entrance to the Sertoma Art Center.  The title is "The Square Root of Two".  The square root of two was the first known irrational number.  Does this describe the sculpture, or the sculptor?

Eagles again

The eagles are definitely back, soaring in the blustery sky.

Both of them were soaring above the lake, and then circled away.

Wolf at the window?

This artistic wolf stands in the bushes staring into the window at the Sertoma Art Center.  Is he hungry or just watching the goings on?

First sign of spring

In the middle of January, one tree burst into bloom.

Phone walking

These two charged past me looking down at their phones the whole time.  I think they did the whole lake trail without ever looking up.

Tree hugging tree

This tree grew completely around the stump of an older tree.  It looks like it's wrapping its arms around the stump.  A tree hugging tree...

Physics or physician?

I spotted this license in a busy Costco parking lot.  I immediately put on my physics hat and thought: DP must mean change in momentum, DT change in time.  So, obviously, change in momentum (mass x velocity) divided by time = kg x meters/second/second is Force!  Perfect license plate for a car.

Then I looked it up.  It's a measure of blood pressure.  Perfect for reading during a traffic jam???

Either way, pretty appropriate for a license plate.

Old Stump

I know that you can count rings to see how old a tree is, but when it's a weathered stump it makes me wonder how long ago the tree itself began to grow.

Not many flowers blooming this time of year, but the seeds are still on some of the plants.

I was trying to get a picture of a bufflehead duck, but they kept diving before I could catch them.  Well, I did get this one mid-dive.

Fishing off the dock at Shelly Lake.  All I saw them catch was sticks.

This killdeer just stood on one foot watching the tennis ball.  Does it think it's a friend?

Red tail

The squirrels were very upset when this Red Tailed Hawk decided to check out the lakeside.

The bald eagles are back

For a few years, a pair of bald eagles have nested at Shelly lake.  Last year the nest was destroyed and the baby fell to the ground.  The pair disappeared and we weren't sure if they were gone for good.  But they're back.  We'll have to see if they fix the old nest or start over.

Theme day in January is the picture of the year from 2019.

It was a good exercise going through the year.
