I think it's a young red shouldered hawk. It was high up on a dead tree watching smaller birds flitting around.

In the sky
Watching a hawk making big circles, we started to see other things in the sky,
a helicopter landing at the nearby Reserve base ...
a waxing crescent of the moon.

Halloween Hawk
This rooftop didn't need scary decorations for Halloween. This hawk sat up on the eves watching all the tasty little trick or treaters walk by.

Two Friends
I watched the hawk on the left fly across the meadow to the tree. But I didn't see his friend until I looked at the picture later.

Front yard visitor
The neighborhood hawk made a visit to the front yard bird feeder. He was watching the action very closely, and then flew away. Whew! no little birdie snacks today!

Backyard visitor
My granddaughter was looking out the window at lunch and shouted, "There's an owl!" We looked out, and there was this beautiful bird. I think he's a juvenile Cooper's Hawk, or Red shouldered hawk. Either way, he made the squirrels in the yard very nervous.

Lookout tree
The tallest tree in the area is a perch used by many different birds. Some mornings a mockingbird is singing it's heart out. Some mornings it's a woodpecker yodeling. This morning it was a red shouldered hawk calling out.

Another Red Shoulder
This one was sitting on a tree near the play area at Eastgate park in an older established neighborhood. He watched for a while and then flew away flashing his striped tail.

Hawk's nest
We heard a skreech, and then watched a mama hawk land on her nest above us. I think she's a red shouldered hawk.
Once she settled in, you could barely see her looking out.
Daddy hawk watched from a distant tree.

Backyard visitor
I could hear this guy calling early in the morning, and then later on he showed up in our backyard. We think he might be a young Cooper's Hawk.

Backyard Hawk
It was a windy day, and this hawk sheltered in the trees behind our house. He sat and looked around for a while and then flew off to a more sheltered group of trees.
I think he's the Red Tailed Hawk that has been screeching around in the tall trees.
