A spider like this must have given J.R.R. Tolkien inspiration for his monstrous spider, Shelob, in The Hobbit. And that of course gave inspiration to J.K. Rowlings for Aragog in Harry Potter.

ReplyDeleteIt would be mighty dangerous tempting out a spider that lives in a hole like that here ... funnel web spiders are highly toxic. Used to kill people until they developed an anti-venom in the 1980s.
