Vine

This lovely vine is either Old Man's Beard, a native vine (see here) , or Sweet Autumn Clematis, a non native (see here).  Either way they are invasive, but beautiful in the late summer.

 

Mimosa

The scent of mimosas is in the air.  (see here  for more about this beautiful invasive tree) 

 

Not a strawberry

This cute little berry is really an insidious weed.  You can pull it, you can mow it, but it keeps coming back.  It is a mock strawberry, not a real one.  It was introduced from Europe but was introduced to Europe from Asia.  It plagues gardens all over the world.  (See here)

 

Yellow flag Iris

The irises are blooming everywhere, even in the swamp.  This lovely is actually an invasive plant brought from Europe.  How disappointing! (see here)

 

Multiflora

This pretty little flower is a multiflora rose.  Sadly, it is considered an invasive species, brought to America from Asia, as root stock for ornamental roses.  (see here)

 

Theme day: Medicine

The theme for April is medicine.  The purple dead nettle is a plant introduced from England for its medicinal properties.  It is supposedly an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.  (see here)

Creeping Charlie

This little flower is an invasive plant from Europe.  British settlers brought it over for food and medicine.  It was used to make beer before the use of hops.  It has a few names: Creeping Charlie, Ground Ivy and Ale Ivy.

 

Not welcome

This lovely little flower is a Chameleon Plant.  It comes from Asia and is very invasive.   An article from Southern Living magazine says that the only way to get rid of it is to "Set off a tactical nuclear weapon in your garden. Pave over your garden with a foot of concrete."(see here)

We found it growing wild on the banks of a wetland.  It has already invaded!

 

Invasion

The mimosas are in bloom again.  They're a beautiful, invasive tree (See here for the grumpy gardener's opinion.)

They are pretty though.
