Adult playground

Just in front of the brew pub at the Raleigh Iron Works is an adult playground.  The swings are very creaky.

The slide comes from the second floor of the building.  The rules are specific.  You must be over 18 and have adult supervision.  Can you supervise yourself?

 

Busy

The only indoor playground in Raleigh gets busy on a hot summer afternoon.  A great way to run off energy without getting heat stroke.

 

Waiting for a friend

The grandchildren's legs have grown too long to use this swing.  So it sits sadly waiting for a new playmate.

 

Use at your own risk

 Yay!  The playgrounds are open again.  No children here, but no caution tape either.

Maybe people were just following the sign's advice.

The playgrounds are still closed, causing a lot of tears in the younger crowd.

They've even padlocked the swings so no one cheats.

Not open yet

The kids are eagerly awaiting the opening of park playgrounds.  Sadly, it will still be a while.

Theme day: Park

The theme this month is Park.

My granddaughters call this Fish Park.  Can you see why?

Sign of the times

The signs were up, the playground was closed.  But the parking lot was full.  Families were out walking on the hiking trails around Wilkerson Nature Preserve.  I think they've all had enough togetherness time.

Green Hills County Park

Raleigh is not known for it's hills, and it's definitely hard to find a place to see the big sky.  But here at Green Hills park you can see both.  Why?  Green Hills is the new name of Landfill Park.  Each of the hills is a completed landfill.  

Might be a good place to see the sunset.

Forgotten

Two shoes sitting on a post in a deserted playground.  Someone went home without their shoes!

Theme day: Yellow

April's theme is "Yellow".  So here is a yellow duck.

And a yellow rumped warbler, 

and a goldfinch.

Outdoor play

The outdoor play area at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation is the best I've found yet.  Most play areas just have some bamboo poles and a sandbox, but this one goes on and on, with a tunnel, a play kitchen area, an amphitheater and more.  

Fairy house

Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve has a play area for kids to build fairy houses.  They have to use natural materials, and they can't use living plants.  But there are some ornate little structures in the village.  

The one below was built by my 4 year old granddaughter.  

Spider girls

This spider web has rubber strings for climbing.  It's in the age 6 and up play section at Pullen Park.  That didn't stop a few 4 year olds from turning into spiderwomen.

There are plenty of nature walks in Durant Nature Park, but the kids always end up on the playground.
