Fall comes slowly here, not like the Northeast or Midwest in a blaze of glory, but one tree at a time. First the yellow tulip poplars, then the red sweetgums. Finally the oaks.
We call sweetgums Liquid Amber here. Have got a huge one in our back yard at Burnbrae. It is the last of our trees to colour in autumn, but the ones in the park over the road are one of the first. I don't know what drives it.
I don't think I've ever heard of sweetgum trees.
ReplyDeleteOaks here tend to change colour later than maples.
