Watching a hawk making big circles, we started to see other things in the sky,


a helicopter landing at the nearby Reserve base ...


a waxing crescent of the moon.

Good Night Moon


Friday the Thirteenth was a full moon, being called a "Micromoon" because it was farthest from the Earth in its orbit (apogee).  We got a quick look at it between clouds, and then it faded away.  Here is the video.

Moon landing anniversary


Anyone who was over the age of 5 in 1969 could probably tell you exactly where they were when they heard the news that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had landed.  It's strange to look up and think that there are footprints on the moon.

Solstice moon


This year there was a full moon on the solstice, along with a meteor shower.  I got the moon, but couldn't see any meteors.  Of course it was cold, and I didn't stay outside too long waiting.

Harvest Moon


I've been trying to get a decent picture of the moon.  And on Thanksgiving night,  walking off a too big dinner, I saw this harvest moon.

Super moon


So, I missed the blood moon (lunar eclipse) and the blue moon (second moon in a month) but it's still a super moon!
