Hard work


The neighbors cut down three huge red oaks.  He comes out every evening and splits wood.  Little by little every time we walk past there are fewer logs and another woodpile.

Fallen giant


This enormous old oak tree sits in a forest of much smaller trees.  I wonder how old it was, and what kind of history it must have seen.

There are only a few leaves left on the trees.  This oak is holding on.

The last Witness


This old oak was alive in 1865 for the battle of Bentonville.  It is the last Witness tree on the site.


The roots hold firmly into the soil.
