Museum

A group of cedar waxwings is called an ear-full or a museum.  This little museum of waxwings was gathered high in a tree.

Waxwing

He was watching the other birds to make sure they didn't steal his juniper berries.

Interlopers

The robin was quite put out when a flock of Cedar Waxwings took over his bird bath.

Lonely visitor

Usually, Cedar Waxwings come in big flocks around here in the spring and fall.  This guy came all by himself and hid out in the bushes before flying off.

Cedar Waxwings are still here

The Cedar Waxwings are still here, but not flying in such large flocks.  They've scattered around eating berries and flitting around very fast.  It's hard to catch them sitting long enough to get a good picture.
They won't stay long, and I expect this might be the last one I see for another year.

The cedar waxwings are back!

All of a sudden, one day, there were flocks of busy birds high up in the trees.  The cedar waxwings are back!

Heavenly Bamboo

This bush is fully loaded with red berries.  It's a Nandina, sometimes called a Heavenly Bamboo.  I don't know how heavenly it can be, the berries are toxic, and sometimes kill flocks of Cedar Waxwings that eat the berries.

Cedar Waxwings

These guys came visiting in huge numbers earlier this spring.  They flocked in our holly tree that was loaded with berries.  They would swoop in and then, for no apparent reason, the whole group would sweep back out.  They make a high pitched whistle, and you can hear them more than see them as they hide in the trees.
