Jewelwing

They fly like butterflies and perch like dragonflies.  They fold their wings which shows them to be Damselflies.

Brookhaven Nature Park

This sweet little nature park sits in the middle of a rather nice neighborhood. 

 It was probably an area that was not able to be developed when the neighborhood was built in the 1960's.  It's hilly and has gullies that fill with water when it rains. 

But it makes a nice little forest park to wander in.

It shows me what all of Raleigh must have looked like before development.

 

Two headed Turtle?

It looked like a two headed turtle.  But it was only a very reflective pond.

These fungi look like seashells.

The trees looked almost clearer in their reflection.

Finally Fall

I thought we wouldn't see fall this year, but finally, mid-November, here it is.

 

Little what?

It looks like a dragonfly, but it flew like a butterfly, and folded its wings like one too.  
Well, it's neither.  It is an Ebony Damselfly!  (see here)

Wetland at Brookhaven

The walkway out to the wetlands, Brookhaven Nature Park.

We didn't spot any wildlife, except of course mosquitos.

Brookhaven Nature Park

Brookhaven Nature Park is nestled in a 1960's housing development.  It is in an area of gullies and drainage that probably was not buildable.  So this little park exists.

It has several trails, with many little bridges over the gullies,

a walkway to view a small wetland,
