Theme day: Slow

The theme for December is "Slow".  What goes slower than a turtle.  

 

Turtles

Follow the leader.

A lone turtle enjoyed the fall colors.

 

Pile on

On a cool but sunny day, turtles find any place they can in the sun.

 

Tired turtle

I don't know if he was really tired or just lazy.  But this turtle looked like he was exhausted.

 

Reflection

How many turtles do you see?  The reflection doubled the turtle population.

 

Line up

The turtles found a sunny branch to climb on.

 

Ignore the neighbors

They may share the same pond, but cormorants and turtles don't have to like each other.

Tons of turtles

Now that the weather has warmed, there are turtles on every log.

 

Grumpy turtle

I don't know if he was sleepy or grumpy, but he plopped into the water pretty fast.

 

Emerging

These turtles looked like they'd been under the mud waiting for spring.  They must have decided to come out in the warm sun.

Turtles make great subjects.  They don't move around much until they plop into the water.

It was a chilly day, so the turtles weren't exactly basking in the sun.  

 

Tiny turtle

This little turtle was so well camouflaged that he was almost stepped on.

I'm pretty sure he was a Yellow Bellied Slider, one of our native turtles. (see here)

He was much happier after we set him down in a safe place.

It must be baby turtle season.  They were all over, swimming and sunning themselves.  The little fish swam nearby, but gave the turtle room.

Two headed Turtle?

It looked like a two headed turtle.  But it was only a very reflective pond.

 

Here I come

Someone must be feeding the turtles off of the fishing dock at Durant Park.  Whenever you walk onto the dock the turtles come swimming.
