Theme Day: Outdoor Cafe

The theme for June is Outdoor Cafes.  

There are several restaurants with outdoor seating in Raleigh, but what's better than ice cream?

The Art Box

The art box sits on a busy corner.  Most people see it as they drive by.  I finally parked and took a good look.  The art changes but right now it's a piece called Triple Delight.  (see here).

This is another mural that I couldn't find information on.  But I did find the artist.  (see here)

 

Taking Wing

This mural is called "Taking Wing,"  It covers both sides of the wall going down into the parking garage basement.  It's hard to photograph since the traffic gets in the way. (See here)

It starts with a paper airplane.

Goes past a tree,

 then crosses to the other side of the ramp, and becomes a biplane.

New art

This is a new mural in North Hills.  I couldn't find information on the mural, but here's info about the artist.

Enjoy Raleigh

Around the corner from Madonna and Child,  I found this mural.  It is a view from Dorthea Dix park toward downtown Raleigh.  (see here)

 

Madonna

I went on an art walk in North Hills shopping district.  First up was this sculpture., called Madonna and Child. (see here)  

I've driven by it several times and I thought it was just a fancy lightpost.  

 

Growing up

Developers are building tall residential/commercial buildings in North Hills.  It might relieve the lack of housing in Raleigh, but I think it's going to be too upscale for most.

Found in a little niche in an upscale shopping area.

You can step in, and take a selfie with starry night.

 

Going Fishing?

Yet another fountain

Why does North Hills have so many fountains?  Probably because it is soo darn hot, and the fountains make you forget about that.

Looking at a fountain on a hot day is very soothing.  It doesn't seem so hot if you can see water splashing.  It's hard to keep little kids from climbing in though.  We saw a few little ones in wet cloths as we walked through North Hills.

North Hills

North Hills mall seems more like a small city for shoppers.  There are small shops on several blocks of streets along with large stores like Target and JC Penney.  Also there are lots of restaurants and of course three different Starbucks.
