Visitors to the Persimmon tree

Squashed persimmons littered the ground, and the birds were busy in the tree.  This juvenile yellow bellied sapsucker was joined by his family.

Daddy sapsucker watched carefully.

This persimmon tree is loaded with fruit.  Last year it was loaded with birds eating the fruit.  It must not be quite ripe yet.

 

This old persimmon tree was loaded with fruit and birds.

A chipping sparrow enjoyed the view.

We saw this fruiting tree in the nature park.  It is indeed native to North Carolina, a Common Persimmon. (here)  It's got a few common names; Possomwood and Jove's Fruit are my favorite.
