Icy

It looks like a wedding cake, but it's just a bird feeder after the snow.

Finally snow

There wasn't much snow, but it was enough to tangle traffic and cancel events.  It is North Carolina and no one knows what to do with that white stuff.

Big snow?

Another "big" snow came through last week.  Cancellations were threatened, people hunkered down.  This is what we saw the next day, a light dusting.

Made in China?

At first glance this guy looked pretty spiffy.  On a closer look I could see that the scarf was only a piece of felt, the hat looked like a cheap costume and the nose was a plastic  carrot.
I think someone bought a snowman kit.

Sledding

Everyone dusted off their sleds and found a hill.  Every little bit of snow became a playground.

Snow on the Magnolias

Don't laugh, but we got 2 inches of snow!   All the kids dug out their sleds.
The city shut down!

Icy sparrow

During yesterday's ice storm the birds were busily eating every seed they could find.
This little white throated sparrow and his friends were hopping under the bird feeder.

Angry Birds?

Well, maybe not angry, maybe only grumpy.
The weather changed overnight from 70 degrees to snowing.  The birds just hunkered down in the trees.

Idaho winter 2

During a recent visit to Idaho, a foggy winter morning.

The trees looked like iced Christmas cookies.

Idaho winter

On a visit to Northern Idaho.
The lake was moody after a quiet snow.

Snow!

I know, I know.  Anyone from north of here is laughing at us, but it snowed!

There was snow on the magnolias.
Kids roamed the neighborhood collecting enough snow in their red wagon to make a snowman.

By noon it was melting.

The snowmen melted away.

Snow at last

School got out before noon, businesses closed early. Evening programs were cancelled.  Everyone was waiting.  The snow started by 5:00pm.  We were expecting 1-3 inches.   Don't laugh, it's a big deal in Raleigh!

Theme day: White

The theme for this month on City Daily Photo is "White".  The photographers from around the world are challenged to post a picture representing white.  See here for the entries.
This is my entry, not exactly white but it seemed like a white world (last December), except for a visiting red bird.

Merry Christmas!

No, we aren't having a white Christmas, but we did have snow earlier in December.  Surely that counts.

Cardinal and his wife

One more picture of birds in the snow.  The male cardinal is flashier, but I think Mrs. Cardinal is beautiful too.

snow birds

Our feeder was a busy place during the latest snowstorm.
Cardinals and a Towhee,

Juncos

and even a Mourning Dove watching the show.

Snow!

I thought we woke up in Denver this morning!  It snowed over night, and the trees were covered in lace.  The Southerners stayed inside, and all of us transplants from colder places were out shoveling.

March snow

So, it wasn't much, and it wasn't for long, but it really did snow yesterday.  It was nothing like the rest of the country, but, yes it did snow in Raleigh.
