Early dawn on a cloudless day.  It's good to get up early enough to see the dawn every now and then.

If you get up at sunrise, sometimes you can get a glimpse of the sun on a cloudy day.

Sunrise on the day after a rain.  The clouds were just leaving as the sun came up.

Maybe they're all starting to look the same?  I don't know, they're all spectacular.

When it's not raining, we get some amazing sunrises.  This one was taken before a rainy day.

It looks like a sunset, but it really was a sunrise.  I was amazed by the swoopy contrails in the sky.  The pilot must have changed his mind about where he wanted to go.

This hawk was calling out in the morning.  He could be heard for blocks.

Morning Contrails

Raleigh must be in the flight path of a lot of airlines.  We see contrails in the sky all the time.  These were glowing in the early dawn.

I see a lot of sunrises, walking the dog.  All of them are good, but this one was magnificent!  

Dawn - New Year's Day 2018

With such a spectacular dawn, who can doubt that 2018 will be a spectacular year?

The dog walk this morning was a chilly 15 degrees, warm compared to anywhere else in the country.  

Not quite Big Sky country

Montana touts itself as Big Sky Country.  That is, of course because there's nothing to block the sky, no tall buildings, no trees.  Here in North Carolina, it's hard to find a place to see a panoramic sunrise.  The tall trees are everywhere.   

Yet again a hot dawn

Hard to believe that it could still be in the 80's at sunrise, but so it was yesterday.  The humidity in the air makes the sun a bright red ball in the morning.

Dawn of another HOT day

It has been HOT here in Raleigh, temperatures close to 100 degrees with high humidity.  Yesterday it was 79 degrees at 6:30 in the morning!  Watching the sun rise, I could tell it would be another hot one, and it was.

March Theme Day: Black and White in Color

Sometimes sunrises are spectacular, and sometimes they're more subtle.  

This is my entry into March's theme day of Black and White in Color.  The photo is unretouched.  It was a grey Christmas morning, the colors were just as you see.
