Juxtaposition

If you stand in just the right place, a hoop of the Gyre surrounds a statue from Counterculture in the NC Museum of Art's sculpture park.

 

Apiary

In a secluded part of the NC museum of Art's sculpture park, we found an apiary.  It was buzzing with activity.

The bees were not unfriendly, but it's probably best that they aren't in a more well used part of the park.

 

Musical swings

We found a new exhibit at the NC Museum of Art's sculpture park.  These swings play musical tones, harp, piano,  guitar and vibraphone. The faster you move, the higher the tone. When you get all of them swinging, they harmonize in unique ways.

The benches rotate back and forth and play tones as well.  The harmonies are very soothing.

Snake Master?

This interesting flower has some terrible names: Rattlesnake Master, Button Eryngo, Button Snakeroot, Beargrass.  It's eye catching among a garden of flowers.  Weirdly, it's in the carrot family.  (see here)

Weed?

I don't know how this flower got its name.  It's not the color of iron, and its not really a weed.  It's New York Ironweed.  (see here)

I guess any native plant could be called a weed?

I've tried to grow it but the rabbits love to chew off all the leaves.

 

Counterculture

A new exhibit has shown up at the NC Museum of Art.

It's called Counterculture by Rose B. Simpson.   (see here for information about the artist and the work)

The figures stand looking out at land once belonging to Native tribes.

Each one has eyes that seem to glow with light coming through.

The Theme for March is Mirror reflection.

The Mirror Labyrinth at the NC Museum of Art is a great place to play with reflections.

 

Kind of Blue

The Waxwing from yesterday wasn't the only one feasting on juniper berries.  This female bluebird took her turn also.

He was watching the other birds to make sure they didn't steal his juniper berries.

 

Lioness

This sculpture of a lioness was constructed out of Masai Shuka fabric and represents the killing and poisoning of lions in the area where the Masai live.

 

Hooded Merganser

This little Merganser was happily diving in the pond all by himself.

The three shades

The Three Shades by Auguste Rodin in the NC Museum of Art's Rodin garden.  They stand at the end of a reflecting pool.  Much better than looming over the Gates of Hell.  (see here)

 

Cedar Waxwing

He looks like a bandit with his black mask.

They're one of the most common birds, but the hardest to photograph.  They are constantly on the move.
