This little blue bird was trying his best to stay warm.

A group of bluebirds were flying around a dead tree, in and out of holes.  

They looked like young birds still developing their color.

 

Kind of Blue

The Waxwing from yesterday wasn't the only one feasting on juniper berries.  This female bluebird took her turn also.

 

Ignore him and he'll go away.

The Bluebird was studiously ignoring the feisty Titmouse.

Happy New Year!

This month's theme is "picture of the year."

I don't know if it's my best picture of 2022, but I really like the blue sky and blue bird together.  (also, I finally got the bird in sharp focus for once!)

Birds of a feather don't flock together

I've always heard the saying: "birds of a feather flock together".  But now that I've been doing more birding, I think that's completely wrong.  When I watch the bird feeders, I see groups of birds of many feathers all together.  

Here is a Red bellied woodpecker and a blue bird at a suet feeder.

And here's two blue birds (male and female),  a goldfinch and maybe a yellow rumped warbler.

Birds are much more inclusive than people, they like to hang out together.

Here, a pair of bluebirds and a house finch visit a pretend bird.

This little bluebird was just watching all the people stroll by on a sunny day.

This lady bluebird was watching us on the Neuse River Greenway.

The males are much brighter of course.
