The Japanese Maples explode

The Japanese Maples have exploded with color.

Even the ground beneath them is bright.

Amazing color for the end of fall.

Turning

Just a few trees starting to turn.  They must have gotten the word that fall is here.

 

Welcome to Fall

Happy first day of Fall!  

Cooler temperatures will be very welcome this year.

 

First leaf to fall

The tulip poplars are the first leaves to go.   They let us know that this hot summer will end soon.

 

Lone leaf

Is it the last leaf of fall or the first leaf of spring.  Either way, it was all by itself.

 

In between

It's not quite winter, but there aren't many leaves still to fall.  The sweetgums are holding onto their leaves but most of the other trees have given up.

I liked the different textures in this scene.

Midwinter color

This little sapling doesn't know when to quit.  All the other trees are bare.

 

Mid-summer fall

It's only July, but some of the trees are already giving up their leaves.  The tulip poplar is one of the first to drop its leaves.

This sweetgum leaf is the first hint of fall.

This plant was already getting ready for fall.

The leaves were bright in the rain.

You can  find trees with color and colored leaves, but most of the trees are still green!
