Theme day: Where would you go?

This month the theme day is: When can I travel again...
We're supposed to post a picture of a place we would like to go when we start traveling again.  That was a hard choice!  But the California Redwoods won out.

Repurposed

The nursery reused their wagons as plant hangers.
I wonder what else a creative person could use.

A fish out of water

We found this sculpture at a landscaping nursery.
Shouldn't the fish be IN the water?

On the wing

The young woodpecker is now flying.  I can hear Mom and Dad calling to him, and then coming in to feed him.  He's flying on his own all over the territory.

Butterfly weed

It seems cruel to call this a weed when I've tried so hard to grow it.  It's a form of milkweed and supposed to be an important plant for monarch butterflies.  They lay their eggs only on milkweed and the caterpillars only eat milkweed.  Now I only have to wait for a monarch to find my little colony.

Waiting

The nuthatch children are getting bigger, they're also getting noisy.

They raise a ruckus when Dad or Mom is late with the food.

Success!

The woodpecker mom and dad have been working very hard bringing food to the nest.
We finally got a look at the baby.

Mom and Dad don't look much bigger than Baby.

Quiet afternoon

No better place to read a book than a quiet woodland greenspace.

Here's the thief

Something has been eating our strawberries.  Just as soon as they're red and ready, they disappear.
We netted the patch to keep birds, squirrels and rabbits out.

The nuthatches, whose home is right above the strawberries were going crazy.

Mr. Possum was caught in the act.
And no, he wasn't harmed and got away to steal another day.
We need to make sure he can't climb the pole to the nuthatch home.  The babies would make a meal.

Busy

This little nuthatch has been coming and going out of the birdhouse for weeks.  Finally we can see he's been feeding hungry mouths.

In the same garden as yesterday, a cat and mouse make friends.

Garden rocks

This rock garden really has rocks.  I wish I was that creative!

Windy day for fishing

The herons were hip deep in the lake fighting against the wind.

Even when it was quieter, they weren't having much luck.

Deer me

A small herd of deer were roaming around Shelly Lake.  They kept their eye on the people walking around on the greenway.

snake

We were warned that there was a bad snake up ahead in the water.  It turned out to be a beautiful Northern Water snake.  Not bad at all.
The markings are the opposite from a copperhead, and it has a skinny head instead of a triangular one.
He was just out enjoying the weather.

Wolf at the door (window?)

The wolf at Sertoma art center looks more like a flower child than the big bad wolf.  But its a surprise to see him looking in the window.

Teenager

This young Robin still wanted daddy to feed him.  He was squawking loudly until dad brought him a treat.

Fly away

This great blue heron was lurking in the reeds on the edge of the pond before he flew away.

Wind sculpture II

It looks like Wind Sculpture II is being blown around like the clouds behind, but it is permanently in a wind blown shape.

Good evening

As the sky darkened mommy owl swooped by.  The owlets were hidden high up in the trees.

Guard goose

The mommy goose was guarding the babies, (or maybe daddy, how can you tell?)

Hard work

The neighbors cut down three huge red oaks.  He comes out every evening and splits wood.  Little by little every time we walk past there are fewer logs and another woodpile.
