A lake is a mirror for the sky.
The Theme this month is "Mirror".

Muddy puddles

After days (weeks?) of rain, the trails were muddy.  It didn't stop this Hermit Thrush though, he fit right in.

Fauci Fan

I did a double take and then realized that this driver just wished that the good Doctor was his passenger (co-pilot?)

Little Brown Birds

There were little brown birds flitting in the meadow.  They moved fast and hid in the tall grass. It was hard to see who they were.

Finally I caught one looking over the grass...Song Sparrows!

Two Friends

I watched the hawk on the left fly across the meadow to the tree.  But I didn't see his friend until I looked at the picture later.

Hellebore

The Hellebore are starting to flower.  What an awful name for a pretty plant.

Three

The day after a week of rain, there were only three little clouds in the sky.  It didn't last though, the next day started another set of days with no sun.

Hidden Rock

I found this sculpture in the garden at the Wilkerson Nature Preserve.  It is in the shape of a rock in the preserve, and has the scenery from the meadow in the park.

Artists always know how to explain their works best.

Hooded Mergansers

There were two males and a female swimming and diving in Shelly Lake.

Old Crow

He was looking a bit ominous in the tree, and making a LOT of noise.

Eagle's nest

The Bald Eagle's nest is ready for business.  At the end of nesting season last year it looked pretty rundown.  Mom and Dad eagle must have been busy renovating.

Empty Gallery

The Sertoma Art Center had a show, but nobody came.
We did, but the gallery was empty.

Eastern Pheobe

This little guy has the tiniest little feet!

He is just a tiny little bird.

The cormorants return

I don't know where they went all winter, but the cormorants are back at Shelly Lake.

If they were much bigger they'd look like the Loch Ness Monster.

Heron territory

This heron was hiding out in the weeds.

This guy wasn't hiding from anyone.

Yellow rumped warbler

They could have called him a yellow sided warbler, but no.

The yellow rump is very distinctive.

Taking a walk

These two were walking around the lake.  The little guy went through every mud puddle he could find.

What are you saying?

I thought the plate was interesting.  Then I looked at the bumper sticker: Hindsight 2020
It's made by a company called "Giant Meteor 2020"  and their catch phrase is "just end it already".
But here we are in 2021, and it doesn't seem much better yet...

First of Spring

The groundhog might have seen his shadow, but he forgot to tell the flowering trees.  These are the first!

Clouds don't lie

Yesterday the mares tail clouds in a sunny sky said it would rain...
and today, rain!

Mares Tails

Cirrus Uncinus
The latin for these clouds means curly hooks.  They're a sign that rain is coming.  (see here)

Windy fun

On windy days, Turkey Vultures circle round and round.  I think they're playing in the wind.

Mystery

This rock is just one of a line of rocks blocking a road from vehicle traffic.
What could it have commemorated?  Where did the plaque go?

Where do old tires go to die?

These trailers were sitting behind the county solid waste disposal site.  What will they be recycled into???
